How do I convert word to PDF in MS 2007?
Like other Office apps, file formats for Word changed with Word 2007. The new file format carries a .docx file extension. The old file format carries a .doc file extension. The way the data are stored is different in the two file formats, so you can’t just rename a file in Windows Explorer to change it. Instead, you must open the file in Word and then save it in the new file format. Word 2019 saves files in the latest file format (.docx) by default. It is wrong to say you are converting a file back to 2007. The correct understanding is that you are saving the file in a format that may be read by Word 2007. When you save a file in this format, any features added in later versions of Word are preserved. Word 2007 can’t create those features, but it may be able to display them. Microsoft’s goal is that such features be handled gracefully by older versions of the software, with the minimum acceptable behavior being that t survive a round trip from Word 2019 to Word 2007 and then back to Word 2019. Any corruption in those features resulting from this round trip would be regarded as a bug. Documents created in Word 2002 may still be opened, viewed, printed and edited using Word 2019. You can even save those files in the .doc file format so t may be edited in an old computer that still runs Word 2002. File formats even older than that may be blocked on your computer, but you have the option of turning that blocking off. You do this in the File…Options…Trust Center…Trust Center Settings…File Block Settings menu item. I realize the dialog (shown below) is well hidden with five clicks needed to see it, but that is where you need to go. Uncheck the boxes to allow Word to open files unimpeded if t are stored in that format. As shown in the screenshot, my copy of Word does not block opening .doc files created by Word 97, 2000, XP or 2003; neither does it block saving files in the Word 2003 version of that format. What do you do with all your Word 2002 documents? One great possibility is to do nothing—Word 2019 can handle them just fine. The other possibility is to run a macro that opens every file in Word, then saves it in the same folder with the newer file format. Note that appearance of your documents may change slightly—I often notice changes in shape objects used in headers or footers, for example.

But that is all fine: your files don't actually have to look any different from Word 2007. Why do you have to be concerned about your newer files? It's because modern versions of Word rely on the security features of Windows, including the ability to set up restrictions based on file extensions. If you use Word 2000 or earlier and the file you are saving to a different file format can access the system—for example, if you copy an old document into a new computer that runs Word 2000—then your older files become vulnerable to attack. This security feature was enabled by default in Windows 2000 and Windows XP as part of Windows Security Improvements, but it can be turned off completely—for example, by changing these registry keys: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\CD]. EnableFileProtectionLevel = 1 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\CD]. EnsureDefaultAccessToFiles = 0 If these keys were changed in Office 2000 or older, then it would be safer to save your.
